OUR HISTORY

Prairie Heritage Arts Association became a reality in the summer of 2006 after founding members Bev Vavra (artist and retired teacher), Barbara Rush (artist and teacher), and Catharine Lamb (artist and business owner), decided to put their dreams and shared vision into action. A common love of art, fiber, plants and animals cemented the trio's desire to preserve the culture, folk art and traditions of the rural plains, and provide educational opportunites to stimulate others.

"We envision a heritage-conscious community offering a multitude of opportunities for interactive and enriching educational experiences revolving around our cultural history. We see this area of Eastern Colorado as a unique family tourism destination. The peaceful beauty of the natural geography, unique agricultural life, and frontier history are ripe for appreciation and development. We believe that now is a critical time to awaken understanding of the value of the stories, journeys and lives of our forebears, and to revive a feeling of regional pride. While throngs of gold-seekers rushed through this area on their way to California, others found their treasure here and quietly settled on these prairies, building homes, farms and communities. The treasure still remains for those who see it and desire to bring this untouched gem of Eastern Colorado into the light where its facets can be truly understood and appreciated."
